Addis Ababa, October 13, 2021 — The newly formed Ethiopian government began an offensive last week to drive out TPLF forces who currently occupy parts of North Wollo and Gonder in the Amhara region. The TPLF terrorist group especially has a strong hold on key towns such as Woldia, capital of North Wollo, and Lalibela, a town holding the distinctive world heritage rock-cut churches dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. More than a million citizens have been displaced due to the TPLF's invasion of this parts of Amhara as well as its constant incursions into the Afar region.
Although, the Ethiopian government has not officially announced the offensive, the TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda posted on twitter a statement from what seemed as the Tigray Government's press release on the Amhara region offensive. The statement from Tigray labelled the recent Ethiopian government's act in Amhara region as "Abiy Ahmed's final offensive on the people of Tigray". While TPLF illegally holds on to parts of Amahra region, the statement, however, calls on the international community to condemn Ethiopia's offensive within the Amhara region. "These genocidal forces are once again keen to unleash devastating atrocities on our people", reads the statement from TPLF.

And from what seemed as a response to the cries of the TPLF, USAID Administrator Samantha Power released a statement following a High-Level Ministerial on Northern Ethiopia with G7 nations. The participants were senior representatives from Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States.
Today, Special Envoy Feltman and I convened an urgent High-Level Ministerial on the conflict in #Ethiopia—one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. There is no military solution, and we will keep working for a ceasefire to stop such needless suffering. https://t.co/YpNaaloGjC

"Participants underscored their deep concern over deteriorating humanitarian conditions on the ground and their commitment to the welfare of the Ethiopian people", read the statement from the High-Level Ministerial on Northern Ethiopia chaired by USAID's Samantha Power.
Although, the meeting did not include any representative from Ethiopia as well as from the African Union, some donor agencies who took part in the discussion said they would support the efforts of African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa Olusegun Obasanjo.
The discussion ended with no decisive decision except to wait for the joint report of the the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to provide recommendations for how to "end impunity for those most responsible for atrocities, including widespread sexual violence and extrajudicial killings".
It is, however, unfortunate that the pleas of Ethiopia is falling on deaf ears. Recently, the Ethiopian government pleaded to the international community to take heed of the actions of the TPLF terrorist group in Amhara region. Reports from the occupied North Wollo and Gondar adjacent areas indicate that the TPLF is "intent on devastating the economic lives of many households", said the Ethiopian government.
Ethiopia has been calling on the international community to condemn the terrorist TPLF soldiers who are stealing ready harvest in the occupied parts of Amhara region. What is even worse is that, said the Ethiopian government, the TPLF soldiers already having consumed the stockpiled food of farmers in occupied areas have destroyed the rest. It was also a fact that a USAID official admitted that the terrorist group did not even spare food-aid warehouses and forcibly taking distributed assistance from recipients in these areas.
Farmers who fled from the TPLF atrocities in Amhara reported that the group also killed their livestock which they are highly dependent on for food, farming, and biofuel.
Unfortunately, Ethiopia is on her own when it comes to seeking support from the US and the EU. It has become evident that the US and EU respond swiftly to cries of the TPLF group than the cries of Ethiopians who still shake when they remember the brutal rule of the TPLF for over three decades.
